I just read this news that a German computer engineer had cracked the secret code that used to encrypt most of the world’s mobile phone calls. In an attempt to show holes in the security of global wireless systems that have been used for 21 years, the GSM algorithm used to encrypt 80% of the world’s mobile calls. This was reported by the New York Times.
This is another wake up call that the existing GSM security is inadequate. This will push operators and developers to adopt better security measures for mobile phone calls soon.
